To the Editor:
I am perplexed as to why there is such a scarcity of trashcans in the City of Bayonne. I visit the locales of Seaside Heights, the Newport section of Jersey City, and Miami Beach frequently, and they have a trashcan on each and every corner. Is this some sort of an attempt at economizing on our city’s behalf? If they are so utterly diligent with street-sweeping regimens throughout the work week, why such inconsistency? Do we want to continue to appear more and more like an urban slum area, living in blight? If the mayor wants to attract yuppies and Bohemians from Jersey City, Hoboken, and Brooklyn, as he claims, this is not the way to do it.
While the repaving of Avenue B is surely needed and is to be commended, indeed, and would never have happened for all the tea in China under the past administration, this issue needs to be solved, even if it means, God forbid, that we have to reduce our alternate-side-of- the-street sweeping!
