SECAUCUS – Swingadelic, acknowledged as the New York City metropolitan area’s “best little big band” performing traditional big band music, will offer “The Songs of Johnny Mercer” at 2 p.m. in the Panasonic Room at the Secaucus Library on Sunday, Nov. 9. The performance is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Secaucus Public Library and CAST (Community Arts Scholarship Theatre). Admission is free.
Johnny Mercer was best known as a lyricist, but he also composed music and was a popular singer who recorded his own songs, as well as those of others. According to Library Director Jenifer May, “From the mid-1930s through the mid-1950s, many of the songs Mercer wrote and performed were among the most popular hits of the time. His classics include ‘One for My Baby (and One More for the Road),’ ‘Fools Rush In,’ ‘Moon River,’ ‘Days of Wine and Roses,’ and many other recognizable classics.”
Special guest vocalist Vanessa Perea will join John Bauers on piano and vocals, David Longworth on drums, and Dave Post on bass for the performance.
Because of limited seating, registration is suggested. Registration online at secaucuslibrary.org or call the library at (201) 330-2083. For more information, contact May at (201) 330-2083 ext. 4011 or may@bccls.org.
