Vote for an experienced independent candidate

Dear Editor:
My name is Joel Torres (3H) and I am an independent candidate running for a seat on the Jersey City Board of Education on November 4, 2014. I am proudly endorsed by the Jersey City Education Association, the Hispanic Coalition of Jersey City, and the Hispanic Political Action Committee. Most importantly, I am a father of three children who currently attend a Jersey City public school. During the past seven years, I’ve been active in their school and our local school district advocating for a quality education for every Jersey City child. In addition, I’ve been an active Heights resident working with my local school and community organizations throughout the area. Through these efforts, I worked to resolve issues affecting local residents and children like missing crosswalk markings, broken sidewalks, and potholes throughout roads. For the past two years, I’ve been the Parent Teacher Association president at the public school my children attend. Through this experience, I continue to prove that I take action and get results to create a successful school community for every child, parent, and school staff.
For example, I’ve worked with public and private organizations to provide funding and other resources for our children, including school supplies, holiday gifts, and test prep guides for parents. Along with this, I’ve worked within our school community to develop strong relationships between parents, students, and school staff by increasing the respect and collaboration between all stakeholders. This led to our school receiving national recognition as a National School of Excellence. As a proud public school parent, I, Joel Torres (3H), take pride in getting our public schools local, statewide, and national recognition. As a Board member, I will work to restore relationships between parents, students, and school staff and increase funding for educational services to make sure that every child, in every Jersey City public school, has the opportunity to succeed. On November 4, 2014, pick the independent voice with the experience to take action and get results by voting for Joel Torres at ballot position 3H for the Jersey City Board of Education.

A proud public school parent,
Joel Torres
