Keeping hateful minds away from our children

Dear Editor:
Lorenzo Richardson’s comments that board members should kill themselves — Is this really the future we want for Jersey City? On the Board of Education meeting June 28th 2012 Lorenzo Richardson told the Board to kill themselves if they voted for Marcia Lyles. Quote: “at least you (the Board) will die with respect … I would tell them to pull the trigger.” (verified in the Oct. 25, 2013 Jersey Journal, available online). This threat was also directed at my wife – a devoted and loving mother of two children in the public school system – who is on the board and just wants a better education for all of Jersey City’s children. We all have our healthy differences in opinion – but can anyone in good conscience vote for this type of hateful mind to be in charge of the futures of 29,000 students?
As a Jersey City father, I urge residents, teachers and parents to vote their conscience, but please do not let this insidious hate become the future of our children and the city. Would you vote for someone who made what seem like death threats to your wife? I also urge the leaders in our community to do whatever they can to keep this man away from a seat on the Board. That is why I am voting for Parents for Excellence – Bertram, Monica and Carol.
