Women have a unique role

To the Editor:

I have been following the discussion in your newspaper about the subject of abortion.
It seems to me that everyone on all sides of this issue would like to work toward the day when abortions are utilized less and less. Even Jane Roe, the name used by the woman in the landmark court case, Roe vs. Wade, that legalized abortion in the 1970s, has since recanted and is now pro-life.
No matter the circumstances of conception, a woman should never be made to feel embarrassed about bringing a child into the world. This is her right. Nature has reserved for women the unique role of giving birth and being the bearers of life. Seen from the baby’s point of view, the value of a person is not determined by the circumstances of her conception. All newborns deserve to be cared for and loved.
This being said, it amazes me that the typical politician will mindlessly be pro-abortion, and not even give this matter a second thought. It is certainly refreshing when someone like
Michael Alonso comes along and raises this issue in a forthright and direct manner.
It takes courage to do that, and it’s good to know that Mr. Alonso’s heart is in the right place.
We need more people in government like Michael Alonso.
I am going to vote for Michael Alonso for freeholder, and I hope that the entire city of
Bayonne does the same.
