Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Dear Editor:
Over half a million New Jerseyans are affected by Alzheimer’s disease – including individuals in the Bergen, Morris and Passaic County areas, who are either diagnosed with the disease or are caring for a loved one with it.
You can register for the Northern Regional Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which takes place on Sunday, October 26 at its new location, Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road in Paramus. Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place annually in over 600 areas nationwide and is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
The Northern Regional Walk boasted over 3,000 Walkers last year, which is a true testament to how committed Bergen, Morris and Passaic area residents and businesses are to our goal of one day finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The funds raised by Teams at this Walk will provide care and support services to those living with Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed research.
We are excited to welcome NBC 4 New York Anchor/Reporter Pat Battle as the Walk celebrity guest this year. Close to 4,000 participants are expected. Entertainment includes DJ Hollywood Bill, the Westwood Community Band and the NJ Devils Mascot. A very moving Promise Garden ceremony will take place to recognize the individuals and families affected by the disease. And festivities such as music, activities, door prizes, food and beverages round out the day.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. According to the Alzheimer’s Association 2014 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, there are more than five million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s unites us as an unstoppable force in the fight against this devastating disease. To start or join a Walk Team today, visit alz.org/nj/walk.
