BAYONNE – Hundreds of Marist High School students took to the streets on Friday, Oct. 3, to raise money to benefit the school’s operating budget, and ultimately, their own education.
The annual walkathon had the entire school population walking from 57th Street, Marist’s current location, to 8th Street, site of the original school, to celebrate Marist’s 60th anniversary this year, approximately a three-mile walk.
“We set the goal this year at $20,000 and collected $21,568,” said Principal Alice Miesnik. “We were thrilled.”
About two thirds of the student body chose to do a “victory lap” by walking back to 57th Street as well, for a six-mile walk. – Joseph Passantino
