Four residents charged in burglary
Four Bayonne residents were taken into custody after allegedly having forced their way into a 52nd Street home, officials said.
On Sept. 23 at 7:10 p.m., police responded to a call of a burglary in progress at a West 52nd Street residence and found the front door forced open, according to Bayonne Police Lt. Janine Foy.
The officers then encountered four people on the 2nd floor of the building. Jason Cruz, 18, of 53rd Street, Deanna R. Ramos, 18, of Garretson Avenue, Mohamed Fall, 20, of 56tth Street, and a 17-year-old male, also a Bayonne resident, were taken into custody without incident.
Cruz, Ramos, and Fall were charged with burglary for the forced entry, Foy said. The juvenile was released.
Nothing was taken from the premises.
Cruz, Ramos, and Fall all had bail levied at $2,500, with a 10-percent option. All three made bail and were released.
Bayonne man arrested for DWI
An Avenue A man was charged with driving while intoxicated and other offenses following an accident on Sept. 18, police said.
At 5:51 p.m. on that day, police responded to the report of a hit and run; that of a four-door silver Honda having struck a parked car on Avenue A, traveling south, and turning right onto 16th Street, westbound.
“Police toured the area and found, across from 37 Country Village Court, a driver slumped over the wheel in his car,” said Lt. Janine Foy.
Police found Walter M. Sierra, 53, of Avenue A and allegedly smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath, according to Foy.
“He was [allegedly] unsteady on his feet, so he was placed under arrest for DWI,” Foy said.
Sierra’s blood alcohol level was allegedly .35, according to Foy, more than four times the legal limit.
His car had allegedly struck a black Honda CRV parked on Avenue A.
In addition to the DWI, Sierra was issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and failure to report an accident, Foy said.
He was later released on a summons.
Duo allegedly distributing marijuana
Two area men were arrested for marijuana distribution after police allegedly found them with the substance, a police spokeswoman said.
On Sept. 21 at 7:10 p.m. the men were observed by police sitting in a two-door, black Honda Civic parked and with the engine running, at the foot of West 22nd Street and Newark Bay.
Andrew E. Guirges, 18, of Avenue C and Hazem Awad, 22, of Belvidere Avenue in Jersey City were in the vehicle, according to Lt. Janine Foy.
“As officers approached the car, they observed a large Ziploc bag containing suspected marijuana on the dashboard of the vehicle,” Foy said. Guirges was in the driver’s seat, and Awad in the passenger seat.
“As they got closer, they [allegedly] observed small, clear Ziploc bags on Awad’s lap,” Foy said. “Several, which he was [allegedly] filling with the marijuana.”
Guirges also (allegedly) had a small Ziploc bag on his lap, which he was [allegedly] filling with marijuana, according to Foy.
The two were placed under arrest.
Both men were charged with distribution of marijuana under one ounce, possession with intent to distribute paraphernalia, distribution of the controlled dangerous substance within a thousand feet of a school (Midtown), and distribution of the controlled dangerous substance within 500 feet of public housing.
Bail was set for both men at $15,000, with a 10 percent option. Both were remanded to the county jail.
