‘As if our tax money grew on trees’

Dear Editor:
Every poker player knows not to throw good money after bad, not to call a big raise and then draw to an inside straight, and every cook knows that you can’t save a bad soup by adding more ingredients, but!…our City Hall is now wanting to throw hundreds of thousands of dollars after an already wasted half-million dollars, as if our tax money grew on trees. (Reporter, Sept. 7)
I’m talking about our 9-11 Memorial boondoggle, or should I say scandal. Scandal because a half million dollars has been spent on this wretched thing with nothing to show for it, and now City Hall wants to throw another quarter million of our good money after this bad investment?
At least one sane Councilperson, Theresa Castellano, “wants a full accounting of all the money now gone.” Good idea! About time! She believes the money “funded a lot of lunches at Amanda’s for consultants and engineers.”
We can honor the memory of the 57 lives lost with a simple dignified memorial costing a fraction of what our City Hall is proposing. If City Hall has more money than it knows what to do with, if it’s burning a big hole in their pocket, how about fixing our streets before our cars become rattletraps from the potholes and corrugation.
