Mayor Davis announces recreation town hall
Mayor James Davis has announced he will be holding a town hall conversation on recreation in the city on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Bayonne High School auditorium.
“Recreation is a topic that the mayor and residents are very much focused on,” said a city spokesman.
“From the outset, I have said that we need to have a big conversation about what the future of recreation opportunities look like in Bayonne,” Davis said. “This conversation needs to include everything from the type of sports we provide, to the quantity and quality of our sporting facilities.”
In addition to the mayor, representatives from his administration, the City Council, and the school district will be on hand to speak about the city’s recreational opportunities, as well as respond to residents’ questions or concerns.
“Mayor Davis will also be making a few big announcements regarding the future of recreation in Bayonne at the recreation town hall meeting,” a spokesman said.

‘Bayonne: Water Colors’ Art Show seeking entrants
Deb Peveler and Lou Segura of Beautify Bayonne invite artists of all media to participate in the art exhibit “Bayonne: Water Colors” at the Bayonne Museum on Saturday, Oct. 25, from noon until 8 p.m.
Artists can submit works of oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, sculpture, mixed media, photography, glasswork, quilts, etc., but each exhibit must include at least one piece of the bodies of water that comprise Bayonne’s coastline.
“Bayonne is a peninsula city at the southern end of the Gold Coast,” said Mayor Jimmy Davis. “Our community’s location and natural surroundings provide great inspiration for artistic expression. I look forward to enjoying the great works of art that will feature Newark Bay, New York Bay, and the Kill Van Kull.”
Peveler encourages everyone who has a passion for the arts and promoting the beauty of Bayonne to participate.
“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then Bayonne has a great story to tell through the arts,” Peveler said.

Clean out your medicine cabinet event this Saturday
The US Drug Enforcement Administration is coordinating a free nationwide drug “take-back” day on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will provide residents with no-cost, anonymous, collection of unused, unwanted, and expired medications.
“Bring your pills and/or patches for disposal,” a spokeswoman said. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps.
This is an opportunity for those who may have missed previous events or who have accumulated more unwanted, unused medications, since the last take-back event. It will help keep dangerous, addictive medications off the streets as well as helping to ensure environmentally sound disposal practices, according to New Jersey Poison Experts.
“We urge everyone to use a lockable medicine cabinet in their home and keep all medications, both prescription and over the counter, locked up at all times,” a spokeswoman said.

Ostomy Awareness Day to be held on Oct. 4
The United Ostomy Associations of America has announced that on Oct. 4 , it will be acknowledging ostomy and continent diversion surgery. The day’s theme will be “Live, Learn and Share.”
“The main aim of celebrating this day is to help patients live a normal life following surgery,” a spokesman said. “The organization also aims to help the medical community learn about the needs of ostomy patients and to share their stories as a way of raising awareness about ostomy throughout the United States.”
The Bayonne Ostomy Alliance, an UOAA-associated support group, will be hosting the event at Bayonne Medical Center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Ostomy Alliance is asking for the support of all who may have had personal experience with, or have known someone who is living with or has lived with an ostomy. The organization is also requesting that individuals communicate with their local government officials to create awareness of this campaign.
An ostomy is a surgically created opening which allows for the elimination of body waste.
