Bayonne Bridge work to take longer, shift to daytime construction

BAYONNE – The Bayonne Bridge “Raise the Roadway” project will take six months longer than expected, and the work will shift to more daytime hours, according to an online report.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said the delay is due to the uncharacteristically severe winter the area experienced this year, according to nj.com.
The raising of the roadway’s height to 215 feet above the Kill Van Kull will now take until the summer of 2016, the report said. The overall project completion is expected in 2017.
The roadway is being raised 65 feet to allow larger ships servicing the Panama Canal to fit under the bridge on the way to Port Newark.
