Dear Editor:
Jersey City’s proposal to build a City Hall annex at the HUB is a good idea whose time has come. Hopefully the project will be brought off successfully. There are, however, a number of questions that have arisen since last months announcement and an alternate proposal that need be considered and answered before the first shovel breaks ground.
The annex has been talked about for a number of years and there should be no immediate rush until the public has the opportunity to see the city’s proposal as well as the one presented by Heights Councilman Michael Yun. Yun makes a strong case for his proposal in that it will in the end save the taxpayers millions of dollars. The city has countered saying not so. Fine. Then at least give the public a solid chance to hear both proposals intelligently presented at a public hearing. The Council should table a second reading on the HUB ordinance until this is done.
Councilman Yun’s meeting last week on this subject brought a hundred people out on a hot evening and when it was over one would have to say the Councilman made a very strong case for his plan to be considered. Accordingly it would serve the city well if a public hearing on this takes place before the second council vote.
Sincerely,
Charles Balcer
