WNY Mayor Roque to run for reelection

WEST NEW YORK – Mayor Felix Roque will run for reelection in next May’s municipal election, official sources said.

He will be opposed by at least two candidates seeking to become mayor. In West New York, however, candidates run for the five town commission seats, and the commission selects one of its own to serve as mayor.

Former Police Sergeant Carlos Bentancourt and town commissioner Count Wiley are currently the only other two declared candidates.

Roque was seen as vulnerable until a federal court found him not guilty of conspiring to hack into the website of a political enemy.

Over the last year, Roque has actually mended political fences with many who opposed him in the last election, and is seen as far stronger than he was when his ticket swept a ticket led by Mayor Sal Vega in 2011. – By Al Sullivan
