Grammy winner Lisa Fischer headlines

Closing concert of free Summer Concerts on Hudson is Aug. 27

Summer Concerts on the Hudson 2014 will present its season closer on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. with Grammy winner Lisa Fischer in her New Jersey debut with her band Grand Baton. Fischer has worked with music royalty such as Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Sting, Tina Turner, and George Benson.
The concert will take place at Lincoln Harbor Park, located directly on the Hudson River in Weehawken. Free Parking is available and public transportation, including bus and light rail, will bring concertgoers to Lincoln Harbor.
Fischer won a Grammy for Best Female R&B Performance for her hit single “How Can I Ease the Pain” in a tie with Patti LaBelle. She recently starred in this year’s Academy Award-winning documentary film “20 Feet From Stardom.”
She is familiar to millions of Rolling Stones fans worldwide for her in-concert duet with Mick Jagger on the song “Gimme Shelter.” She is currently celebrating her 25th anniversary with the Rolling Stones and will once again go on tour with them to Australia and New Zealand this fall.

Another memorable summer ends

“It’s a terrific way to end a wonderful season which included concerts that could not be heard anywhere else,” said Bruce Sherman, producer of the series. “We pride ourselves on presenting world-class artists who, in many cases, come together at Lincoln Harbor Park for one night only. When that happens, it’s a very exciting experience for both the artists and their fans. I believe our audiences appreciate being exposed to and discovering music which is new and different.”
Born in Brooklyn, Fischer calls Hudson County her home now and many of her neighbors are looking forward to seeing and hearing her.
“There’s a great deal of buzz about this concert. If the concert were not free, it would be a hot ticket.” said Sherman.
Fans will be treated to a performance with her trio, featuring musical director and multi-instrumentalist JC Maillard. Count on hearing R & B, Rock, Jazz and World Music in a new and refreshing way.
