Newport came alive with movement and color as kids demonstrated dances of India, traditional and modern before a crowd of nearly 500 people in the River Market Place on Aug. 15. Hosted by NewportMommy.com and Surati, a nonprofit Indian dance and education group, the event will include singing and dance, including kids from local schools, demonstrating modern and traditional Indian dance styles. Surati will hold a dance workshop as well as perform classic Indian Dance.
Kids dressed up in colorful outfits and played the role of historic characters from India’s fight for independence. This is the second year this event is being held.
