Before you know it, it will be time for kids to go back to school. September is “Library Card Month,” everywhere. This is the best time to get your child a card so that they are ready for learning with the best free school supply there is. Library cards are free to all Hoboken resident children who come to the library with their parent or legal guardian and proof that they live in Hoboken. Mom or Dad’s drivers’ license or a utility bill or rental lease serves as proof of residency. Children who get library cards, this month, will get a small prize for signing up. Children as young as six months should have their own card because a card is personal card (not a parents’ card) is required to attend most library programs such as story hours.
Also, in cooperation with Hoboken’s Early Childhood Education program, the library will sponsor two special story times for children starting pre-school or kindergarten. On August 19 at 3:30 p.m., we will have a “Ready, Set – Preschool” Story Time with books to help children prepare for the big day and a special craft. On August 21 at 3:30, we will have a “Ready, Set – Kindergarten” program for children who are making this special transition. A representative from the Early Children Education Program will be present at each program to answer parents’ and children’s questions about starting school.
Space is limited for the story times and tickets will be available the day before each program at 7:30 a.m. on the Hoboken Library’s website (www.bccls.org/hoboken ) at the Eventbrite banner. For further information, call the library at (201) 420-2348.
