To the Editor:
I took a walk down by the Rutkowski Park the other day. This beautiful park was built at considerable expense to the city and requires constant maintenance. The Bayonne Nature Club and its volunteers have spent hundreds of hours cleaning up the park. I noticed that someone has disposed of their trash right in front of the park; this in spite of multiple trash receptacles placed by the city. Bottles, plastic bags, and food containers. At the end of the boardwalk, I saw that the floats that the city had put in the water for birds contained empty bottles and even someone’s umbrella. I spent twenty-five years with the Boy Scouts hiking anf visiting camps along the Appalachian trail. The BDA mantra was “Take only pictures, leave only footprints.”
Come on people, respect the environment, and respect yourself.
