Bayonne Bridge crossing to be halted twice the morning of Thursday, Aug. 7

BAYONNE — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will temporarily hold traffic on the Bayonne Bridge in both directions for approximately 20 minutes at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, to allow work to proceed on the “Raise the Roadway” project.
The “holds” will allow the Port Authority and its contractor to safely move and position oversize trailers onto the bridge.
Due to the low volume of traffic during those hours, the Port Authority does not expect significant delays, but motorists are encouraged to use the Goethals Bridge to avoid the delays of 20 minutes or more.
The $1.3 billion Bayonne Bridge project is designed to raise the navigational clearance under the crossing to 215 feet to allow larger, modern ships to navigate under it.
