Secaucus juvenile arrested for possession of a handgun

SECAUCUS – A local juvenile (age 16) was arrested on July 30 for possessing a .45 caliber handgun, according to a press release. The release says:
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Secaucus Police Officer Marc Schoch observed a verbal dispute involving five individuals in the area of 493 County Ave. while he was on patrol in a marked police car. Upon investigating, he learned the juvenile had allegedly threatened one of the other individuals with a handgun. An empty pistol was subsequently recovered from the juvenile’s waistband. He was placed under arrest without incident and charged with various counts of unlawful firearms possession, terroristic threats, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana). He was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Center, pending an appearance in Hudson County Family/Juvenile Court. A second juvenile (age 17) from Saddle Brook, NJ was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and later released to a parent.
Acting Police Chief John Cerny commented, “We now have one less gun on the street that could have potentially harmed someone.” Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli stated, “Officer Schoch and the Secaucus Police Department have done an excellent job in handling the incident.”
