P2P Reform

Dear Editor:
In the turmoil of the last Jersey City municipal election, our city council considered two competing “Pay to Play Reform Ordinances,” both seeking to expand pay to play restrictions and include school board candidates. Neither ordinance was adopted.
The first ordinance proposed by then Mayor Healy’s administration and supported by Citizen’s Campaign was tabled by then Councilman Fulop’s faction on the council. The second ordinance proposed by then Councilman Fulop and drafted by Diana Jeffrey, now employed by the Jersey City Legal Department was subsequently vetoed by then Mayor Healy.
Now with a council majority, I urge the administration quickly and decisively to bring their version of expanding “Pay to Play Reform” back for introduction, vote and adoption and to also include the input of Citizen’s Campaign which recently conducted a “Call to Service Summit” hosted by Mayor Fulop
The city should do the right thing and keep moving “Pay to Play Reform” forward.

Sincerely,
Daniel Levin
