BAYONNE — For the second time in three weeks, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez visited the Peninsula City.
With a little less pomp and circumstance, but no less importance, Menendez’s visit to City Hall and the Bayonne Fire Department on Monday, July 21, was to personally announce a $295,000 federal grant that will better prepare city fire fighters to battle blazes.
Menendez brought along a huge, replica check for the grant amount to present to Mayor James Davis and Fire Chief Gregory Rogers.
The funding will enable the fire department to purchase new turnout gear and to handle high-angle rescues at tall buildings and industrial sites.
Menendez visited Bayonne on July 1 to personally swear in then Mayor-elect Davis in the Bayonne High School auditorium.
