Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 14 at the Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, 597 Bergen Ave. in Jersey City, for Cornelius R. Parker, 98, a longtime Jersey City businessman, former City Council member, and civil rights activist.
He died Monday from complications of emphysema while in Atlantic City for family birthday celebrations.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 13 from noon to 9 p.m. at the Cotton-Parker Funeral Home at 37 Clinton Ave. in Jersey City, which Parker owned and operated. A second viewing will take place on Monday, July 14 from 10 to 11 a.m.
The family has extended an invitation to the public to join them for a repast back at the church after the service.
Parker served as Ward F councilman from 1977-1981 and was an active member of the NAACP.
