HOBOKEN — The city of Hoboken released this statement on Thursday:
The City of Hoboken is monitoring Tropical Storm Arthur, which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, but is not currently forecast to directly impact our area. However, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flooding watch from Thursday, July 3 at 8am to Friday, July 4 at 12pm. A cold front approaching the region is expected to interact with tropical moisture from Arthur resulting in periods of heavy rainfall. The City of Hoboken is taking preparations including pre-positioning barricades to close streets as necessary.
Residents are advised to closely monitor forecasts and make appropriate preparations, including moving their vehicles from flood-prone streets. Currently, 2 to 4 inches of rain with rainfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour are possible. If heavy rain beyond the capacity of Hoboken’s flood pump occurs during high tide, flooding is expected.
Due to the potential for flooding, the City of Hoboken is providing reduced rate parking in municipal Garage B (located on 2nd Street between Hudson and River Streets) and Garage D (215 Hudson Street) from Thursday, July 3 at 8:00am through Friday, July 4 at 8:00am for $5 for residents who reside in flood prone areas and have a valid Resident parking permit or Temporary parking permit placard. In addition, Hoboken residents with disabilities who possess either a handicapped license plate or hang tag for their permitted vehicle may also park in the Midtown garage (371 4th Street) for the same reduced rate.
Garage parking space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. When discounted parking is offered, garages frequently fill before the start of the discount period. Residents who wish to park in the garage outside of the discounted hours will be charged the regular garage fees during non-discount hours. Residents who have a parking permit decal or Temporary parking permit placard are reminded that overnight parking (8pm to 8am) is available at a rate of $5 every day of the year in Garages B, D, and Midtown.
