NFL Washington Redskins

To the Editor:

There is a real controversy over the name of the football team Washington Redskins. This name has been in effect since 1933; 80 years.
All of a sudden, it has been labeled racist. This is not true, it was meant to honor the American Indians whose skin happens to be red. The real truth is that we all have different colors; black, white, red, yellow. By calling someone by the color of their skin does not make them racist. Black people have always been proud of their skin color, as have other groups of people. So where is the racist comment in “redskins,” it’s not there.
