Bayonne fire chief says he’s staying on in new administration

BAYONNE – Fire Chief Gregory Rogers announced on June 26 that after a talk with Mayor-elect James Davis that he will continue to head his department after Davis takes office on Tuesday.

Earlier in the week Rogers had been reported to be retiring, but after a positive conversation with the mayor-elect, he decided to retain his post.

“This day, in my capacity as fire chief for the city of Bayonne, I had a great conversation with Mayor-elect Jimmy Davis regarding public safety, our shared interests in high-quality emergency services, and the subject of my recently publicized retirement considerations,” Rogers said in a prepared statement.

Rogers said that Davis urged him to stay on as fire chief during his administration’s transition period.

“I have canceled my immediate retirement interests, in favor of helping the new mayor and his administration,” Rogers said. “I look forward to continuing my tenure of providing high-quality emergency services to the city of Bayonne.”
