Summer Green Health Fair on June 21
Mayor Nicholas A. Sacco, the North Bergen Health Department, and the North Bergen Municipal Utilities Authority invite residents to attend the Summer Green Health Fair on Saturday, June 21 from noon until 4 p.m. at the 64th St. field.
There will be blood pressure screenings, diabetes and cholesterol screenings, animal care education, bicycle and car safety, live music, face painting, arts and crafts, adopt-a-pet, and much more.
“Go Green”–leave your cars home and walk. Rain date is Sunday, June 22.
Summer programs at library begin July 7
Library Director Sai Rao is pleased to announce the library’s annual summer programs for both the main library and the Kennedy branch. Registration begins on Monday, June 23 at 9 a.m. and the programs begin Monday, July 7. Registration is open to North Bergen and Guttenberg residents. Hudson County Sheriff says ‘Click it or Ticket’ campaign a success
Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari announced the success of the spring 2014 ‘Click It or Ticket’ seat belt safety campaign.
“Wearing a seat belt in a motor vehicle, regardless of age or seating position, increases the chances of surviving a crash by almost 75 percent,” said Schillari. “Our officers were successful in stopping and enforcing seat belt laws throughout the county and I am proud of their hard work.”
During the campaign, which lasted from May 19 to June 1, over 189 seat belt violation tickets were issued, including 12 for having unrestrained children in the vehicle. Violations were also issued for cell phone usage, suspended licenses, uninsured driving, uninsured vehicles and speeding– totaling over 266 summonses.
During one particular incident, a sheriff’s officer noticed a driver without a seat belt and signaled him to pull over. The driver proceeded to flee the scene while throwing several bags from the vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, officers returned to the area and recovered the bags, which were filled with a substance suspected to be marijuana. The driver was charged accordingly.
Sheriff’s officers will continue to enforce seat belt safety in Hudson County.
Pool open daily beginning June 28
The North Bergen pool, located at 2111 91st St., will be open every day for the season, beginning on Saturday June 28. The hours of operation are Monday to Friday from noon until 8 p.m., and on weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The pool is open only on weekends until June 28, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Children’s Summer Reading Club starting soon
The North Bergen Library will be holding its annual Children’s Summer Reading Club. Register at the youth services desk at the main library or with the staff at the Kennedy branch. Bring in the books you have read to log with library staff. Get a prize for every goal reached.
Summer Reading Club starts June 26 and ends Aug. 22. It will kick off with ice cream parties at 1:30 p.m. on June 26 for the main library and 1:30 p.m. on June 27 for the Kennedy branch. Discussion and video on saving the Delaware bayshore screening June 23
A video screening and discussion on June 23 will document the work of a coalition of conservation groups and non-profit foundations to restore the ecologically important beaches of the Delaware Bay following Superstorm Sandy. The beaches are a key habitat for horseshoe crabs and migrating shore birds that feast on the crabs’ eggs. The video, “A Race against Time,” co-produced by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, Greener New Jersey Productions, and the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, will be screened at 6 p.m. at the Meadowlands Environmental Center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst. CarePoint gala raises over $642,000 for community programs
The CarePoint Health Foundation annual Spring Gala on Saturday, May 17 raised more than $642,000 and was attended by a sold out crowd of 530 people, including physicians, medical staff, donors and community leaders. Part of the event’s proceeds went to endow the new CarePoint Health Foundation College Scholarship fund and other foundation efforts to assist those in need in Hudson County.
The Spring Gala program was led by CarePoint Health Foundation Vice President and Master of Ceremonies Paula A. Nevoso. The program included recognition of donors and sponsors, whose generosity make the mission of the organization possible. Individual and corporate sponsorship donations ranged from $2,500 to $30,000.
The CarePoint Health Foundation, Inc., is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that generates charitable dollars and makes strategic grants to support programs and services that advance its mission of improving access to health, wellness, health education, and future health professionals’ education services for residents of Hudson County, New Jersey.

Workshop on securing procurement business is on June 25

State bar foundation sponsoring free seminar on wills and estate planning
As a public service, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation presents a free public seminar on wills and estate planning on Thursday, June 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square off Ryders Lane in New Brunswick.
Topics of discussion examine estate-planning basics, including wills, elder law planning, Medicaid eligibility and guardianships. A question-and-answer period follows the presentations.
Guest speakers are Crystal West Edwards, Esq., and Farah N. Ansari, Esq., attorneys with the Florham Park law firm of Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP.
