Union City is #6 ‘best small city for women in the workforce’

UNION CITY – Consumer advocacy site NerdWallet recently researched and ranked locations across the country and named Union City the number 6 best small city for women in the workforce.
The overall score for each city was calculated from the following measures:
• Median women’s salary, adjusted by the cost of living
• Gender pay gap
• Population growth
The NerdWallet study analyzed 61 large cities with populations greater than 300,000, 241 medium-sized cities with populations between 100,000 and 300,000, and 220 small cities with populations under 100,000.
Union City was the highest ranking city in New Jersey. Clifton, at number 10, was the only other New Jersey location in the top 20 listings.
Since 1967, the percentage of the U.S. workforce comprised of women has increased from 29 percent to nearly 50 percent. In 1960, only one in ten American mothers was the sole or primary family breadwinner, compared to four out of every ten mothers in 2011. –Art Schwartz
