Dear Editor:
I am delighted to pass on my enthusiastic congratulations to Freeholder Anthony Romano on his decisive win in Hoboken’s recent Democratic Primary election. Freeholder Romano’s overwhelming victory showed that the voters appreciate over 30 years of hard work and service for all residents of Hoboken much more than being dictated to by Mayor Zimmer and the machine.
As Chairman of the Hoboken Democratic Party, and a proud supporter of Freeholder Anthony Romano, I could not be more gratified by the overwhelming number of voters who believed in Freeholder Romano, and worked hard to make sure their voices were heard regardless of ballot position. Congratulations to Senator Cory Booker, Rep. Albio Sires, and Surrogate candidate Joseph Ryglicki who had our full support regardless of where they were on the ballot. Compliments to Phil Cohen as well for doing his best and being active in the community.
The mandate Hoboken gave to Freeholder Romano is to continue putting the people first, and ensuring that the tremendous progress our community can achieve is not controlled by outside interests.
It is amazing what can happen when everyone works together for the advancement of Hoboken. Freeholder Romano brought together all types of people, from all types of ethnicities and backgrounds. He made no distinction between born and raised or newcomer to our great city. I don’t believe in coincidences, so it is with great disappointment to realize that Mayor Zimmer has had 16 opportunities to endorse or support a born and raised Hoboken candidate for local office, and 16 times Mayor Zimmer has chosen not to. Hopefully, Mayor can take Freeholder Romano’s resounding lesson of unity and be more accepting of Hoboken B&Rs.
I could not be more excited for Hoboken’s future at the County level, and I look forward to 3 more years of Freeholder Romano’s energy, leadership and dedication to service above self for the betterment of all of Hoboken.
Best regards,
Jamie Cryan
Hoboken Democratic Chairman
