Hooks, Deshmukh brawny for Bruins

Knowing that a victory would seal their spot in the JCC of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Jr. Division “Gold” medal round, the (4-2) Blackhawks set their sights on downing the (2-3-1) Bruins. Boasting both the league’s top rated offense and defense, the Blackhawks swooped into action as Matt Miceli assisted Aaliyana Cifuentes on her eighth goal of the season. The Bruins quickly answered as Kasper Hooks worked a pass to Megan Feeley who fired in the tying goal. After a brief lull in the scoring, the Blackhawks struck again as Matt Miceli hammered in a wrist shot off an assist by Alejandro Cifuentes to give the Hawks a 2-1 advantage. As the Blackhawks worked at a steady pace, the Bruins kicked in to high gear as Kasper Hooks (2 goals, 1 assist) and Declan McCormick (1 goal, 2 assists) sparked a 3 goal run to put the Bruins up 4-2. With the clock becoming a factor, the Blackhawks’ Matt Miceli took matters into his own hands with a net jarring goal which was set up by a steal by Roman Popowski and a darting pass from Alejandro Cifuentes. Holding a slim 4-3 advantage, the Bruins’ defense dug in as Arya Deshmukh made one brilliant save after another while Caitlin Feeley’s zone clearing blasts helped the Bruins capture a hard fought 4-3 victory.
