As Hoboken’s real estate industry gets busier and busier, just like its neighbor across the river, it may be hard to find personalized service. This need is something that the agents at Hudson Place Realty, 132 Washington St., take to heart. One of their top sales associates says that by committing to relationships with clients and sticking with the times technologically, Hudson Place has a winning formula as it celebrates its 35th anniversary.
“In the world of real estate we have an unusual office because our agents work together, sharing knowledge and experience in a way that makes them happy and fun to work with,” said Irene Perello, who has been at Hudson Place for for more than 15 years. “You hear the horror stories from real estate offices about client stealing, not being able to trust your colleagues, things like that. We have a healthy and open environment and it helps us build relationships.”

“We’re part of the fabric of the town, so we might just see something another Realtor wouldn’t, because we’re not driving in in the morning and leaving at night,” she said. “We’re homeowners here. Our kids go to school here.”
A changing market
When Hudson Place Realty opened in 1979 (on Hudson Place; it moved to Washington Street in 1986), most of the brokers in town were independent. With more corporate firms moving in after the town’s development boom of the 2000s, Hudson Place made the decision to continue building its business on relationships, the kind you can only get from a small office.
Since current owner Jon Sisti bought the business from his former boss in 1985, the office hasn’t changed all that much, but it has maintained a commitment to embracing technology.
“The market became more sophisticated so we did too,” said Perello. “We increased our web presence, got into social media, and online marketing tools.”
The office also hired an in-house interior designer, graphic artist, and photographer.
“We’ve definitely kept up with, if not tried to be ahead of, the curve,” said Perello.
And still, finding a home in Hoboken can be a daunting and drawn-out process. It can take months to find a spot that meets the criteria and even then you might not like it when you see it.
“It takes patience and perseverance,” said Perello. “It helps to work with someone who has your best interests at heart. We operate a collective environment of cooperation and respect, and that includes our clients.”
