U.S. gun deaths are at a staggering high

Dear Editor:
According to statistics from the Center of Disease Control, this week, the number of gun deaths in the U.S. since the tragedy in Newtown rose to 49,559. That is the size of the population of Hoboken.
Each day that we go without proper controls on weapon ownership and sales, the number of deaths takes out a larger and larger city. In contrast, the number of deaths in, say, Norway during this time wouldn’t even fill a large apartment building.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Corwin
Former resident of Hoboken
