Phil Cohen asks for your vote

Dear Editor:
On June 3rd, registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters in Hoboken and Jersey City will cast an important vote – deciding who represents them as their Hudson County legislator, or freeholder. During my campaign, I have enjoyed meeting with and listening to many of you. I know that you are very concerned with the relentless increases in our county property taxes, which squeeze homeowners on tight budgets, hurt seniors on fixed incomes, and hit renters as annual rent increases. From 2009 through 2014, Hudson County taxes will have increased by more than 30 percent!
We must put an end to the years of Hudson County socking Hoboken and Jersey City taxpayers with 15 percent and 7 percent annual tax increases.
I have a plan to put the brakes on county taxes. As freeholder, I will insist on a top-to-bottom independent performance audit to assess all county operations and identify potential inefficiencies and cost-savings without sacrificing services. I will also hire a “budget auditor” as my main aide to ensure that I ask the right questions.
We need a new approach to county government. With your support, I look forward to becoming your Freeholder and standing up for you.
I am honored to be running with the support and endorsement of Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, and Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer. I appear on the ballot in Column A, along with Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Albio Sires.
On June 3rd, please remember to vote in the Democratic Primary. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

I respectfully ask for your vote.
Phil Cohen
