Popowski, Cifuentes power Blackhawks

Sitting in first place at (2-2) the Blackhawks braced for a tough test as they took on the (1-2-1) Bruins in a JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division Floor Hockey fray. The bout got underway as predicted as the two squads fought out to a 2-2 tie in the early going with the Blackhawks’ Alejandro Cifuentes and Roman Popowski drilling goals while the Bruins’ co-captains, Megan Feeley and Declan McCormick answered with scoring blasts. After quick offensive starts, both teams’ defenses seemed to settle in as Aaliyana Cifuentes (Blackhawks) and Arya Deshmukh (Bruins) rose to the challenge at net. Needing a spark, the Blackhawks rising star Roman Popowski stepped up and fired in his second goal of the game to make it 3-2, Blackhawks. Feeling a sense of urgency the Bruins went on an all out offensive blitz with Caitlin Feeley, Kasper Hooks, and Marcelino Soliman pumping shots on net but the Blackhawks’ defense repelled the charge as Declan Good, Harsh Easwar, and Matt Miceli trumped the Bruins’ offense. Holding a slim one goal advantage (3-2), the Blackhawks’ offense finally took flight as Matt Miceli (2) and Harsh Easwar (1) assisted Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes on three “door slamming” goals to secure the Blackhawks’ 6-2 victory.
