HOBOKEN — Jaime Vallejo, 56, sold hot dogs in Columbus Park, across from Hoboken High School, for 30 years. Sometimes, he let needy students have his dogs free or at lower cost, friends said.
Last Monday, he passed away at Hoboken University Medical Center.
Admirers have left flowers and notes in his old spot at the county park, located at Clinton and Ninth streets. One note from children said he was the best hot dog vendor ever.
A fund has been set up to help his family with expenses: http://www.gofundme.com/8wso5s
Services were held Friday and Saturday. He is survived by his wife Gladys, a son, Edwin, and a daughter, Stephanie, according to an obit. He also had three brothers and four sisters. He was born in Colombia.
