Dear Editor:
In response to the “Battle over charter’s expansion goes to court” story (4/20/2014): Award-winning HoLa Charter School has been named in a lawsuit by the Hoboken Board of Education. That’s right: this board of Ed has filed suit—at taxpayer expense! Against one of its own schools.
Here are the facts about HoLa Charter: It’s open to all Hoboken children and operates at a fraction of the cost of other Hoboken public schools, it’s in the 99th percentile ranking in academic achievement in its peer group, was just named a Department of Education World Languages Model School 2014, is a school with a community-oriented student body and faculty. Why the Hoboken Board of Ed would actively try to shut down a school with this kind of track record and deprive the children of Hoboken an opportunity for academic excellence is beyond comprehension. I urge people to contact the Hoboken Board of Ed and tell them what you think about their use of taxpayer dollars to file a lawsuit against children they are in charge of educating. Kids first – not courts!
