Grandson charged in stabbing homicide in Jersey City Heights

JERSEY CITY – John Ugarriza, 27, of Jersey City, has been charged in connection with the stabbing death of his grandfather, Jesus Ruiz, age 73, said Hudson County Acting Prosecutor Gaetano T. Gregory.
Ugarriza has been charged in connection with the stabbing that occurred on Tuesday on Sherman Avenue in Jersey City as allegedly the result of a dispute between him and Ruiz.
Police, who responded to the report of the dispute, were led by neighbors to the second floor apartment, where they found Ugarriza standing in the apartment and Ruiz lying on the floor. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and Ruiz was pronounced dead. Ugarriza was taken into custody at the scene by Jersey City Police. Homicide investigators believe Ruiz was stabbed multiple times with a knife.
Ugarriza was charged with Murder; Possession of a Weapon (knife) for an Unlawful Purpose; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife). Bail for Ugarriza was set at $250,000 cash only. – By Al Sullivan
