We need a home gym

To the Editor:

On any given day, Bayonne PAL / Elite cheerleaders spend much of their time practicing. Since the program’s inception two years ago, these 150 girls and boys have won multiple local and national titles representing Bayonne. Their cheer uniforms, equipment, and their cheers mention “Bayonne.” Yet, most people in town don’t know that Bayonne PAL / Elite’s “home gym” is in Jersey City and not Bayonne. Wouldn’t it make sense that a program that represents Bayonne have a home gym in Bayonne? Unfortunately, even with their tireless efforts, the program’s organizers have not been able to secure a permanent in-town gym. A hometown gym would give these children a convenient location that they could safely walk to without worrying about transportation to an out-of-town gym. A hometown gym would allow the Bayonne PAL / Elite program to expand to meet the demand for quality cheer programs at all levels, including a possible special needs team. With the current space, practice time is limited, and the program’s expansion is limited. Until an in-town space becomes available, Bayonne PAL / Elite Cheer will continue to rent space in Jersey City as its “home.” If anyone can help our program find gym space in Bayonne, please contact Bayonne PAL / Elite at bayonnepalcheer@gmail.com.
