Bayonne Fire Department investigates ‘foul odor’ report

BAYONNE – The Bayonne Fire Department responded to the report of a foul odor in the area of Hook Road and Route 440 on Wednesday, April 2, just after 12:30 p.m., a fire official said.
Arriving companies detected a strong odor, according to Fire Chief Gregory Rogers.
A tanker truck, transporting a product known as ethyl acrylate, used for paints and glues, was thought to have possibly leaked a small quantity of product at that location, Rogers said in a statement.
“The tractor trailer was tracked to Linden Bulk Transportation in Linden, New Jersey, where it is reportedly undergoing an evaluation for leaks and a safety check,” Rogers said.
The odor reportedly dissipated in about a half hour.
The Hudson Regional Health Commission and the Department of Environmental Protection were notified, the chief said. – Joseph Passantino
