SECAUCUS – The Secaucus Public Library and Kulture Kool are partnering to present a celebration of Holi for library users of all ages. The festivities, which will include traditional Indian music performances, food, and crafts will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 4 in the library’s Panasonic Meeting Room. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
“The Indian festival of Holi commemorates the start of spring and the victory of all things good,” said Archana Athalye, co-founder of Kulture Kool. The celebration will feature a special musical performance by Suryaksha Deshpande and Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury, who are well-known in India and in the global Indian community for their talents on the tabla and sitar.
Children under the age of 7 who wish to attend must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event. Those who arrive late will be admitted at the discretion of library staff, so as not to disrupt the performance already in progress. Registration is suggested due to limited seating. Then on Sunday, April 6 the Town of Secaucus and The Indian Caucus of Secaucus are hosting a celebration of Holi in Mill Creek Point, Millridge Rd. The event will feature bright colored powder or ‘gulal,’ which is smeared on participants as part of a Hindu tradition that dates back thousands of years. The vibrant Festival of Colors will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. All are invited. –Art Schwartz
