Heading into the final week of the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Jr. Division, the (1-5) Dragons and the (2-5) Knights were both hoping to fine-tune things as they readied for the playoffs. The Knights took control early as Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes pumped in two goals while Harsh Easwar added a scoring shot as the Knights built a 3-0 advantage. Undaunted, the Dragons roared back to make it 3-2 off a pair of unassisted goals by team captain Ryan “Iron” Griffin. As their big lead faded, the Knights got back on track as Alejandro Cifuentes bulled in two quick goals off assists by Aaliyana Cifuentes and Alanis Concepcion. Down 5-2, the Dragons once again chipped away as Matt Miceli assisted “Iron” Griffin on his third goal of the bout making it 5-3, Knights. As both squads raced into the final 10 minutes of regulation, the Dragons’ Rohan Banoor and Arya Deshmukh surged into the offensive effort with shots on net but the Knights’ rookie goalie Raquel Belber proved to be up to the challenge. With a slim two goal lead, the Knights’ defensive ace Alanis Concepcion turned a steal into the game clinching goal as the Knights captured a 6-3 victory.
