Daniel Webster School kicked off Book Fair Week with a Mexican Fiesta on Friday, Feb. 21. Parents and students enjoyed an evening of fun-filled reading activities as they browsed and purchased books set up by the DWS Parent Teacher Participating Association.
The Book Fair continued into the next week, when each class visited the Book Fair in the library, browsed through the many books and gifts set up there, and purchased what struck their eye.
The Book Fair culminated with a celebration of Read Across America on Feb. 28. Many local dignitaries and business persons, including Mayor Richard Turner, Township Manager James Marchetti, Board of Education President Richard Barsa, members of the Board of Education, members of the Weehawken Township Council, the Weehawken Women’s Club, and the Spirit of NJ, visited DWS to share their love of reading by reading books to the children.
Members of the high school’s Peer Leadership groups and the National Honor Society also read books to the children throughout the day.
The event was hosted by the PTPA, and the Weehawken Education Association donated coffee and munchies for those in attendance. The Weehawken Women’s Club donated a classroom book for each of the five classes in grades Pre-K – 2.
