Funeral services were held March 14 at Monumental Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Anna Lee Johnson. She was born in Elloree, S.C. Her family moved to Jersey City shortly after her second birthday. She was happily married to the late Wheeler Johnson for 34 years. Anna was active in the Monumental Baptist Church, Jersey City church for over 40 years. She taught Sunday school for over 30 years and was a member of Gospelettes of Jersey City for over 25 years and served as a financial Secretary of the Chapel Choir was a member of the Voices of Monumental and president of the Women’s Choir.
In March 1999, Anna was honored at City Hall as “Woman of Action” for her devotion to children interested in bowling. Anna was recently inducted into the H.C. Women’s Bowling Assoc. Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service in October 2000.
Surviving to cherish Anna’s memory are her sister, Wanda Felder; nieces Tama Ridley, Deneed Matthews, Angela, Tanea and Gina Felder; nephews, Jerome Matthews, Mark, John, Jarvis and Lance Felder; great-nieces, Jada and Morgan Matthew; great-nephews, Troy Ridley Jr., Jordan Matthews and Cameron Jones, Jr.; brother-in-law Clarence V. Matthews and sisters-in-law Gloria G. Felder and Verna Zeigler and a host of other relatives and friends. Services arranged by the Jackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City.
