A surprise “fun event” is being held to celebrate the United Nations’ International Happiness Day today. Festivities and community celebrations will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Secaucus Harmon Meadows Plaza and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at CVS Plaza.
In 2012 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared March 20 to be the International Day of Happiness, “recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world, and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives,” according to their website.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s message for 2014 states: “Happiness may have different meanings for different people. But we can all agree that it means working to end conflict, poverty and other unfortunate conditions in which so many of our fellow human beings live.”
