A funeral mass was performed Feb. 24 at St. Joseph Church, Jersey City, for Anne M. Markey, 86, a lifelong resident of Jersey City. She passed away peacefully on Feb. 19. Anne was a teacher and guidance counselor at New Dorp and Port Richmond High School on Staten Island where she served as Director of College Discovery. She graduated at the top of her class at the Academy of St. Aloysius and the College of St. Elizabeth where she served as senior class president at both schools. Anne received two Masters Degrees from Hunter College and Fordham University. She served as a member of the Alumnae Council of the Academy of St. Aloysius for five decades. Anne was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Jersey City, serving as lector, member of the parish council and school advisory board. Anne was a world traveler and loved no place more than the Adirondack Mountains where she spent every summer since childhood. Above all she loved spending time with her nieces and their families.
Anne was predeceased by her twin sister, Mary McDonald and her husband William; her parents William and Anna Markey. She is survived by her nieces; Mary Pat Wallace and her husband Thomas Wallace, Anne Marie (Mimi) McDonald-Hartnett and her husband Edward Hartnett, Maureen O’Halloran and her husband John O’Halloran, Maggie Condon and her husband Cushing Condon, Bridget Evans and her husband James Evans, Katy Conte and her husband Martin Conte; great-aunt of Meg, Nora and Kathleen Wallace, Eamon and Seton Hartnett, Annie O’Halloran, Mary Clare and Margaret Condon, Lili and Mae Evans, Matthew, William and James Conte.
