Drivers dreading the closure of the Pulaski Skyway’s northbound lanes will be relieved to hear that the start date of the project has been delayed.
Originally scheduled to close following the Super Bowl, the date was first pushed back to the beginning of March. Now it has been delayed again to at least March 29.
The exact date of the closure will be announced soon, according to a Department of Transportation spokesman.
New York-bound lanes will be closed while the road service is replaced. Massive traffic backups are expected throughout Hudson County as a result of the closure, with cars bound for New York forced to find alternate routes.
Jersey City officials say the city will be changing the traffic patterns to deal with backups.
The lanes are expected to be closed for two years as part of a $1 billion Skyway rehabilitation project. —Art Schwartz
