Secaucus to hold special court session Monday morning for out-of-towners who offend during Super Bowl weekend

HUDSON COUNTY — Don’t even think about wrecking the quality of life in Secaucus during Super Bowl weekend.
Secaucus, the town next to East Rutherford, where the big game will be held on Sunday, is celebrating, but also issuing notes of caution.
The town is running a public “Winter Blast” festival through Saturday. But they’re also on the lookout of quality of life offenders, officials said at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Mayor Michael Gonnelli warned that “not only for this event but for anything that happens to our town [during Super Bowl week], we have zero tolerance. We’re not going to put up with any nonsense, anything to do with any kind of public nuisance.”
To handle the increased traffic, the Secaucus police have increased patrols.
“We are having a special session of our municipal court on Monday, Feb. 3 at 9:30 a.m.,” said Councilman Gary Jeffas. “That’s a specific session for any traffic violations or things like that from anybody out of town, so we can handle those issues before they go back.”
Councilman Jeffas also pointed the availability of a smart phone app called ‘safe-nj’ that can be downloaded and used to report suspicious activity. The app enables citizens to instantly report to the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, 24 hours a day.
