Funeral mass took place Jan. 20 at Immaculate Conception Church for Rev. Joseph P. Pietropinto, 68, of Secaucus. He passed awayJan. 15. Born in Elizabeth to the late Joseph and Jean Pietropinto, Fr. Joe is survived by his brother Vincent and numerous relatives and close friends. Fr. Joe attended St. Francis Xavier Grammar School and Parish in Newark where he was an altar boy and member of the choir. While attending Essex Catholic High School in Newark he enjoyed being a member of the Glee Club and attending the New Jersey All State Chorus.
Fr. Joe attended Seton Hall College and Divinity School as well as Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington where he was the organist. Fr. Joe was ordained by Archbishop Boland in 1970. His first parish assignment was St. Joseph Church in East Orange. Later assignments were St. Andrews in Westwood, Notre Dame in North Caldwell and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood. He served as Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace and Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus.
While pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Fr. Joe served as executive officer of Cub Pack 87, chaplain for The Knights of Columbus of which he was a Third Degree Knight. He also served as a chaplain for the Catholic Daughters, Secaucus Police and Fire Departments and Unico. Services arranged by the Mack Memorial Home, Secaucus.
