FBI returns to WNY

WEST NEW YORK – City officials confirmed that agents of the FBI again paid West New York a visit this week, apparently going to Town Hall, the Post Office, and the WNY Housing Authority. Local officials said they did not know what the FBI was looking for. But others said that FBI agents interviewed some people at all three locations.
One official, however, speculated that some people opposed to Mayor Felix Roque have been raising issues that required federal officials to check out, even if these things lacked merit.
This is the second visit in two weeks by federal officials. Two weeks ago, an FBI agent also attended a Board of Education meeting,
Both visits come just prior to a critical Board of Education election, to be held Tuesday.
One issue in the election is the fact that the state Department of Education released a damning report last year blasting Roque’s alleged political influence in the school system.
Visits by federal officials could serve as an election ploy to remind voting public of the allegations against the Roque Administration.
Freeholder Jose Munoz, who has been a leading critic of Roque and openly backing an anti-Roque slate, said he has had problems getting mailed election materials into public housing.
“But I do not think the FBI would be looking into that,” he said. – By Al Sullivan
