A mass of Christian burial was offered Jan. 15 at the Church of the Resurrection, Ellicott City, Md., for Mary Jane Fleck of Ellicott City,formerly of Jersey City and North Beach. She passed away Jan.6. Born in Jersey City, she was the daughter of Harry C. and Mary Spatz; the wife of Carl W. Fleck “Bill”; mother of William Fleck (Roshni) and Shannon Kraft (Mark); grandmother of Nicholas and Thomas O’Halloran, Caitlyn and Maura Fleck and Sean, Brady and Megan Kraft; sister of Kathryn Spatz Durkin of Macungie, Pa., Nancy Spatz Charlesworth (John) of Weehawken and Kevin P. Spatz (Mary Ann) of Wyckoff. She was adored by her 16 nieces and nephews and many cousins.
A graduate of St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City, Mary Jane received her degree in teaching from the State Teachers College at Jersey City. She later received her Master’s Degree in Education from Seton Hall University and was a doctoral candidate. Mary Jane taught for many years in the Jersey City School district before making her home in Ellicott City to raise her family. Mary Jane was full of love, kindness and generosity and by all who knew her, considering everyone part of her family. Services arranged by Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, Ellicott City.
