Hoboken resident Frank Augustine recently received recognition from the city, state and county for his long time contributions and service to his country and community. Augustine, who will be 97 in January, emerged from humble beginnings before blossoming into a leader in his Hoboken community. He spent 10 years in an orphanage, later entered the army before returning to Hoboken where he lived and worked.
New Jersey State Senator Brain Stack presented Augustine with the Senate Proclamation saying, “This House hereby honors Frank Augustine, pays tribute to the meritorious history of service, leadership and commitment, and extends to him sincere best wishes.” Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer presented Augustine with a Mayor’s Proclamation. The Proclamation noted, “Frank has also worked tirelessly for his community, serving as a member of the Hoboken Elks Lodge No. 74, receiving the Worker of the Month and Worker of the Year Awards; has served a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 159, where he coordinated the donation of Funds to the Hoboken Fire Department and Hoboken Police Department for the purchase of life saving equipment; and as a Boy Scout Leader for 25 years in Troops 68, 159 and 66.”
Additionally, Al Santos, mayor of Kearny, N.J. and Board Clerk of the Chosen Freeholders of N.J., presented Augustine with the NJ Freeholders Resolution. The Resolution highlights Augustine’s 15 year career at the former Janssen’s Dairy Company of Hoboken, and his 29 year tenure at Maxwell House Coffee Company. His eldest son, Dr. Dennis Augustine, describes him as, “One of those guys people talk about who literally will give you the shirt off his back.”
